Klara Lidén (b. 1979 in Sweden) is one of the most interesting artists of her generation. Skipping the traditional local gallery representation, Klara Lidén has none the less represented Sweden in the Venice Biennale and created a great echo on the international arena, having exhibited in venues like Centre Pompidou, Paris, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Galerie Neu, Berlin and Serpentine Galleries, London. She received a special mention from the jury of the 54thVenice Biennale. Her work circles much around the public and the private space of the city and her Untitled (Bierbank) is a wonderful example of that. In this work she has from above taken images of several bierbanks, the benches so commonly used in German bars. She has then combined these different exponations into one, creating a hazy and dreamlike image. The public bench with its different users, has become a very private place where personal notes and scribbles have been carved into the wood, telling the story of those who have previously passed by, but yet open to interpretation of the public eye. The subject matter from the everyday life is closely connected to her Poster Paintings and her Trash can-series, all reflecting upon the intersection of the personal and the public spheres.
