Jens Fänge
Die Strasse V, 2007
Gouache and collage 30 x 25 cm
Jens Fänge (b. 1965 in Sweden) creates mysterious scenes willed with emotions and movements, despite the seemingly cool surface. His typical colours gives his work a sense of calm, but nothing is never what it seems in the paradox universe of Jens Fänge. His proportions are always a bit off, the people often inhabiting his interiors and exteriors seem to be apart, like they were put in the picture on hold, or actually trying to find a way out or way in. The viewer can never really be certain is he or she is looking at a motif under the process of disintegrating or if things are actually in the process of falling into place. In recent years, Jens Fänge has worked on a larger scale, creating scenographic backdrops to his works installed in gallery shows, creating a sensation that you as a viewer actually have been invited to step into his paintings and collages. The work “Die Strasse V” is a great little collage by the artist where we do not know what is lurking around the corner, just as it should be in the world of Jens Fänge.
