Jarl Ingvarsson (born in 1955, Eritrea) holds a unique position on the Scandinavian art scene. His powerful, expressive and yet poetic paintings have their roots in the neo-expressionism of the 1980’s. He also continues the path of his late fellow artists such as Sven X:et Erixson, Bror Hjorth and Hans Viksten. In his studio by the lake at home in Sparsör, Sweden, the ordinary things of everyday life are in focus in order to explore the mysteries of painting. Through trivial objects such as a stool, a coffee pot or a chair, we are allowed to dwell upon larger subjects such as life, death and faith. Jarl Ingvarsson has a tremendous importance to a younger generation of artists, and his extensive exhibition at Liljevalchs konsthall, Stockholm, in 2012, enabled a new audience to discover this, in a true sense, painter’s fantastic universe. He is represented at among others Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Norrköpings konstmuseum and Malmö Konstmuseum. In 2018 he was awarded the Prins Eugen Medal of Honour for distinguished artistic importance.
