3 QUESTIONS TO:
LUKE EDWARD HALL
Luke Edward Hall (born 1989, England) was the first artist to exhibit at Arsenalsgatan 3, when we opened the gallery almost a year ago. The inaugural exhibition offered a great journey between classical forms and Matisse’s shapes and lines, but with Hall’s very own playfulness, his distinct painterly expression and his sense of colour which has since taken the world by storm.
Luke Edward Hall is the first to answer our 3 questions. In order for us to stay in touch with all of you, we will share thoughts and insights from artists, gallerists and other people from the art world (and beyond!) that we are curious of. So here we go!
1. What artistic projects are you working on right now?
- I'm working on drawings for an exhibition which was supposed to open in London in May, as well as a couple of new collaborative design projects, my Financial Times interiors column and a few commissions.
2. How are you spending your days during quarantine (we know about your gorgeous cottage) and what book is recommended reading in order to keep up the moral?
- We are doing lots of work in the garden, and lots of cooking! We got a new puppy last week - he's keeping us very busy indeed. I've been enjoying getting lost in artists' biographies during quarantine - I can highly recommend "Serious Pleasures: The Life of Stephen Tennant", and I'm about to start "John Minton: Dance Till the Stars Come Down".
3. What impact, do you think, will this strange spring have on the art world in the near future?
- I think it will make everyone reconsider how many events and fairs are held, how many people think they need to go to. People have been so used to travelling around the globe for these events. We've been forced to slow down and I think, even once lockdown is over, we'll need to give proper thought to how we can continue with a more mindful approach to work, travel and so on.
Thank you, Luke!
